Abdominal Tumescent Liposuction
Eliminate stomach fat and lower belly bulge
Many people carry something extra with them every day: love handles, a spare tire, belly bulge, a stomach pooch. Unwelcome stomach fat is an unfortunate fact of life for young and old, men and women.
A person’s shape is affected by many events in their life: aging, pregnancy, weight gain, and activity levels can all effect one’s form. As we grow older, we lose muscle tone and accumulate fat across the stomach, making your waist heavier. Even young women who are otherwise very thin can have a lower belly bulge that won't improve with diet or exercise.
Having a tumescent liposuction surgeon eliminate your belly fat with liposculpture is much easier and safer than undergoing a traditional tummy tuck. The process is simple:
- You are given a local anesthetic to numb the area.
- Your surgeon then places one or two small incisions in the upper and lower abdomen to begin the suctioning process with a small cannula.
- Your tumescent liposuction surgeon uses slow, gentle movements to remove the fat, meaning limited pain, fewer bruises, and a rapid recovery for you. The entire tumescent abdominal liposculpture procedure usually lasts only an hour or two and reduces fat permanantly. Tumescent Liposuction patients need only local sedation, and most patients are back at work in one or two days.
- Tumescent Liposuction is permanent. Once fat cells are removed from the body, they do not grow back.
- Tumescent Liposuction produces noticeable results, leaving you with a sculpted, flatter abdomen and a more defined waist.

Why choose abdominal tumescent liposuction? Is it for men or women?
Both men and women benefit from abdominal liposuction. Since moderate amounts of fat can be removed, patients see a more defined waist and smaller stomach circumference. Men can regain definition, giving them the six-pack abs they have always wanted. Women can recapture the smooth, flat stomach from their younger years, even after pregnancy. Thin women can finally be free of their stubborn lower belly pooch. With tumescent liposuction, recovery is quick and post-op bruising and pain is minimal.
What is the abdominal tumescent liposuction like?
Liposculpting is performed in a relaxing and luxurious spa-type setting with all the safety, sterility and standards of an operating room, under local anesthesia. Patients remain awake and alert during the entire procedure. First, the surgeon numbs the skin and places one or two small incisions in the upper and lower abdomen. Using gentle suction, excess fat is removed with a small cannula. The procedure lasts for about one to two hours, and patients walk out of the office with their new, sculpted bodies.
Am I a good candidate for abdominal tumescent liposuction?
Patients in general good health with excess fat on the abdomen can benefit from liposculpture. Anyone who has excess adipose tissue under the abdominal muscle, such as patients with barrel-shaped waists, may not be good candidates for abdominal tumescent liposuction. Abdominal liposuction can only reduce the fatty layer that rests on top of the stomach muscles.
Will abdominal liposculpting give me a 6-pack?
It's possible. Tumescent Liposuction is designed to remove fat, so abdominal liposuction removes the fatty layer to reveal the muscle structure underneath. The shape of your muscles determines the shape of your stomach: if you have six-pack muscles, you will have six-pack abs after abdominal tumescent liposuction. Flat muscles produce flat stomachs, but some people have small imperfections in the muscles that may persist after having liposculpture.
Will I have any scars or sagging skin after abdominal tumescent liposuction?
Tumescent liposuction of the abdomen leaves only one or two small incision sites on the upper and lower stomach, each only about 3mm wide, or less. Scarring does not usually occur; however, any resulting scars normally fade into the natural color of the skin.
Anyone under the age of 60 with good skin tone will generally not notice any sagging skin. Older patients or those who have lost a considerable amount of weight may still experience sagging or lax skin. All Renew patients receive a complimentary SkinTyte skin tightening treatment after the fat is removed, and time has allowed for healing and any additional swelling to subside.
What are the post-op procedures for abdominal tumescent liposuction?
Patients generally experience only mild discomfort after the procedure. You can walk immediately afterward, enjoy light to medium activities, and return to work in a day or two. Some, but not all, patients experience mild bruising. A compression garment is worn around the abdomen to promote healing, reduce swelling and provide the best overall results.
Some patients may experience swelling of the stomach after the procedure. The waist and stomach take the longest period to recover. Good results are visible within about a month or two, final results are seen within six months. While it does take a while for the swelling to go down, there is minimal to no pain involved. The most common discomfort patients experience is mild soreness, similar to the muscle ache that accompanies strenuous exercise.
Will abdominal tumescent liposuction affect future pregnancies?
No. Abdominal liposuction removes only the excess adipose tissue from the stomach and does not affect your muscles, organs, or ability to bear children.
